Nieuport Aces of World War I

Nieuport Aces of World War I -- Based on the Bebe racer built for the abandoned Gordon-Bennett Trophy of the previous year, the design of the Nieuport XI made it extremely maneuverable. It was flown by French, British, Russian, Belgium and Italian aces. The more powerful XII which succeeded the XI went on to become one of the best fighters of WWI, remaining in use on the front lines even after the arrival of more modern fighters. The final Nieuport creation to see WWI action was the notoriously unreliable Nie.28, used by the American Expeditionary Force in the absence of more reliable fighters.
